Who is the Good Morning News?

The Good Morning News is FREE paper that has been served Fresh and Fun since 1994.  Its goal is to bring laughter and entertainment to its readers, and effective affordable advertising to local businesses.

History

The Good Morning News began in Calgary in 1993 as a vision of Stewart Sparks.  His vision was to bring effective, affordable advertising to businesses of all sizes and types.  The Good Morning News was created with a goal to make this vision a reality.  By combining advertising from local business with light-hearted and fun content, a unique and memorable paper was created.

After months of planning and research, a star was born in 1994 when Good Morning News hit the shelves in Calgary.  It allowed advertisers to focus on local readers, rather than ineffective and expensive city wide advertising by breaking the city into “Districts.”

The paper went through many incarnations as it continued to keep its “Fresh & Fun” image at the forefront, but the content never wavered.  It was built on helping Calgarian readers be entertained by light-hearted and informative content, such as its immediately famous “Joke of the Day” “Brain Teasers” “On This Date in History” and puzzles like Sudoku & Crosswords.

Most recently, the paper went through its biggest transition as the paper was purchased by local businessman Dustin Fedun in early 2008.  Dustin was very familiar with Good Morning News as he had been an avid reader and supporter since its launch in 1994.  Dustin’s vision for the paper is much the same as Stewart’s was (bringing Affordable Effective Advertising to its clients, and Fresh & Fun Content to its readers), only on a much larger scale.  Bringing the Good Morning News to new markets across Canada is Dustin’s immediate focus, after it has achieved such immense success and popularity in Calgary over the years.
